industrial pretreatment limits for sulfate

I need to develop local limits for sulfate due to severe hydrogen sulfide damage in the collection system downstream of an industrial area.  One of the industries discharges a heavy sulfide load, (1500-2000 mg/l or about 3800 lbs./day)  The Massachusettes Water Resources Authority produced a good presentation at WefTec 07 "Full-Scale Field Trials Identify Sulfate Discharge Limits For Municipal Wastewater Odor and Corrosion Control".  The presentation has helped me understand the problem, and…See More

Carbon monoxide in sewers

I have noted high levels of carbon monoxide in the manholes downstream of a soybean oil extraction plant.  Most of the literature I find identifies incomplete combustion as the only source of carbon monoxide in a sewer,  but there is no combustion going on in the area.  I saw one document that spoke of the breakdown of hemes from soybeans and I somehow got the idea that this might produce the CO I'm finding.  I wonder if anyone else has seen this kind of problem or would like to put forth…See More
