Rain Water Harvesting is an acient method to water conservation, but was not taken into recognisance fully till the 19th century.
We are all water harvesters as roof water collected can be used for domestic cleansing, and storm water and runoff water for irrigation etc. This process should be used more even as ocean/sea water is harvested.

This is an ancient and most effective way of conserving water and thus not over exploiting the fast depleting ground water source. In most of the areas where they receive good rain fall also have drought in the summer season as most of the rain water must have gone into the sea before it can penetrate the ground. So each and every individual should make his contribution by making aware of this ancient water conservation technology and thus contribute to the welfare of the future generation who will be in a chaos situation made by us. So we have to take up seriously the first step ourself towards making rain harvesting a household feature.
A friend of mine lives in Bermuda now and she said pretty much all the residents there use roof rain water collection.
It still popular in India...Mumbai city gets water because of this system...in hill states it is common...I am now working with a group in West Bengal to make it regular habit...I need cooperation guidance...I am trying in arsenic prone areas...
AM HAPPY TO Realize that there are people whom we share the passion.it huts me to see us go painfully through severe droughts, loose our investment and in more severe situations our dear lives. Every day spending long hours queuing to get a portion of never enough relief food and when we see clouds heavy with rain we predict a death season all our remaining animals are carried by the floods and we cant even get clean water and this time apart from simply queuing for food alone water is al;so a need. as we watch millions of litres go to the ocean i always wonder are we seeing the drought coming again and seems to have nothing we can do.As such i believe that we can harvest the water since there exist no agreement with ocean that we must surrender all water to her and keep it for tomorrow's uses. than x
hi wakhora wangani, i am delighted by your response, i would want to get to meet you proffesionally as a WATER CONFERENCE would be coming up this quarter. my email is speak2bibious@yahoo.com, or +2347030146680, thanx
Do agree , Our country India in which 70% of our population depend on agriculture, hence the policy has to be for water harvesting at every stage from its origin till it flows into the ocean without impacting the environment, valid points put forth by Mighty OBINNA,Chaliyath Sanju Ratnakumar,Rita Bradley,GK Ghosh,(excellent effort),Wakahora, and offer from Curt hallberg(appreciable)
Hello GYAN CHAND GHOSH, i am really sorry to all waterworld inmates, i've been "out" for some months now. But now i am here to stay and more vibrantly discuss plausible researches and ideas, both as it's related to INDIA and AFRICA. I really thank you for your comments and commends, it's a mark that we all should work harder. This we can only do together.
We are speaking about the factors "WHY & WHAT". Which, by now every body accepted that Rain water harvesting is one of the most efficient answer to future potable water crisis. Don't all of you agree that its high time to act.

Think and speak about factor "How" and "let's do it".

I appreciate Mr. gopal Kanta Gohsh and his team for starting a work on a practice to harvesting rain water at areas with high aresenic levels in ground water. Recently I was working on a project planning sheet on Rain water harvesting and our company is ready to fund a project for harvesting rain water in 147 acres of its premises, but we could not find a real knowledgebale vendor to this job in our state of Jharkhand.
I have a query to all of the readers - shall we not benchmark Israel, make a strong tie with them to get fast and good technicques/processes of Rain water harvesting? Shall we not get rain water harvesting mandatory through supreme court order?

I request India Government to Act quickly on this.
Mr Soumitra Banerjee, Iam doing rain water harvesting in my village Nirsa, dist dhanbad,Jharkhand, by diverting water from storm water runoffs into ponds, and constructing open wells at locations in the lowest valleys after conducting a survey, simple theory of hydraulics put to practice can bring down the cost using mobile pumps with multi delivery system. a pilot project in 25acres to provide drinking water for village Kuhuka , drinking and Irrigation for Mouza belkupa is a sucess providing sustainable income to 15families by year round cultivation of fish, vegetables, rice, wheat, mustard, lentils, Mango plantation, this will be further extended to 250acres....such projects not only takes care of poverty, it takes care of environment, migration of people to cities minimized and provides a good environment for the Intellectuals to live returning from city stressfull conditions.
I apologise for my absence for a while, i would be of a motive that a bill is passed on water harvesting. As an environmentalist by profession and my experience for years, i have found water supply to be at great risk in recent years, due to climate change. More hands need to be on the move to let the Government of every country to note this. Thanks once again SOUMITRA BANERJEE. I can be reached at speak2bibious.
Great to hear this. May I invite you at Jamshedpur at our site to give us your valuable suggestions and insight. Please send me your contacts at sbanerjee@tatapower.com
